As hard as it is to admit, my “baby” isn’t a baby anymore. She is definitely a sticky-fingered, runny-nosed, giggly bundle of messes and mischief! She is well past interested in her basket of baby toys, and with two older brothers, there are no dolls or playhouses around. I’ve been wanting to get her a doll house for a long time, and jumped at the chance to work with MiO the moment I saw their adorable and modern wooden sets!
We were so excited to receive the MiO Playing Eating Sleeping Working + 2 People set! The 2016 MiO collection is composed of small blocks and wooden pieces, natural and brightly colored, along with hand-painted dolls. There is so much room for open ended play, which is probably why this set isn’t even advertised as a doll house at all, but rather a modular wood play environment. With the unlimited ways to arrange and rearrange the structures, it could be a store or a hotel or even a cruise boat.
Think of a tradition doll house. You have a rigid structure of walls and floors and a handful of plastic pieces that have one function. There is little else to create without bringing in outside parts and pieces and the set-up probably looks the same every time. Enter MiO! You start to create and imagine as soon as you open the box as you start to arrange the rooms into a new home design. The lid becomes a yard and the array of sustainable wooden pieces become whatever you want them to be!
This set includes 1 large room, 1 grassy patio (that also serves as the lid to the box), 2 rooms, 1 loft, 2 blocks, 1 hopscotch plank, 1 natural plank, 2 step pieces, 4 reversible tree/garden blocks, 4 pillars, 1 room divider plank, 1 graphic block, 15 cubes, 1 blanket, 1 pillow, 2 MiO beanbag people, and a drawstring storage bag.
Before the set arrived, I wondered if the wooden pieces would be rough or poorly painted, but every single part is so finely crafted, solidly painted with child-safe water-based paints, or sanded completely smooth. I’m so tickled that there is nothing that can break! No weak plastic parts or delicate hinges to protect. I’m completely confident that this set will look just like new in years to come based on its solid construction and chunky components.
Doesn’t this collection look like something you’d find in a celebrity child’s room?! It is clean, unbranded, not gender specific, and completely chic.
The recommended age for this set is 3 and up, but my 18-month-old toddler was happy as could be to hold all the pieces, arrange pieces in the rooms, and place the dolls in their beds and at tables. What a fantastic toy that can grow with your child as their imaginating capacities increase!
The beanbag people are sure adorable. The faces are hand-painted and the beanbag bodies stay upright and just where they are placed. My daughter loves to hold and squish them!
I love how easy it is to expand from here with other MiO sets! How fun it will be to next add more people, more rooms, and even vehicles or animals to what we already have. We’re so excited to have this whimsical and adorable play environment to cherish for years to come!
