Your little one will look darling in a DIY No Sew Baby Headband. That’s right, no sewing machine needed for these adorable headbands!
My first two kids were boys, so when little B came along, I got a little accessory-crazy. The day I found out I was having a girl, I started making bows and hair clips and headbands, and I think my favorite creations of all are these knit bow headbands! These come out to be around $1 a piece and they take 10 minutes or less to make. A big bow on a tiny baby head is just one of the cutest things to behold!
DIY No Sew Baby Headband Tutorial
Start by gathering up some knit fabric. You can use old shirts or maxi skirts, or anything with some stretch to it. At the cutting counter, I ask for 1/8 of a yard, which comes out to be 4.5-5 inches. I don’t even bother to trim up the edges or even out the sloppy cutting job because on most of these knits, the edges roll under nicely and you don’t even see them.
The first step is to measure your cute baby’s head with the fabric and tie a loose bow. You might want to mark where the knot should be with safety pins you can remove later because you’re going to do some pulling and tugging. The key to a really great bow is a TIGHT knot. Pull the bunny ear loops as tight as you can, then pull out the loose ends to take the bunny ear loops back down to size. Repeat and repeat until that knot is tight as can be and won’t come loose.
Next, trim off the extra fabric on the loose ends. You can measure them next to the already-made loops and just make them twice as long so that when these ends also become loops, they will all be the same length.
Take that loose end and pinch it between your fingers, gathering and folding a little as you go. On that back of that beautiful bow, find a crease for it go inside and glue it down with hot glue. Try to stuff it into the crease and press it down flat.
Allow it to cool and you’ve got one darling little DIY baby headband! No sewing machine required!
Oh sweetness — this floral print!
I’ve found that with the thinner knit fabrics, the bows are easier to knot, but the loops get a little floppy. The thicker knits can get bulky but the bows really hold their shape.
This red stripe is my favorite! Little Rosie the Riveter here.
I still can’t get over how effortlessly easy these DIY no sew baby headbands are to make. Because there is so much stretch in these knit fabrics, they can be worn for months and months and still fit your princess.
